Condolences on the Death of the Vice President and Eight Others

We, members of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), are shocked to learn the death of the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Rt. Honourable, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, and other members who accompanied him in the Aircraft that crashed on Monday.

PAC extends to Your Excellency, Government of Malawi, and to the people of Malawi our deepest sympathy for the untimely death of the Vice President and members that accompanied him on the aircraft.

A tragic accident has taken away a dynamic leader, the Vice President, and his loss will be deeply mourned by those who interacted him. Nonetheless, his leadership style and his accomplishments will remain as a lasting legacy for all Malawians, and especially for his political party, United Transformation Movement (UTM), for which he worked so hard to establish. Malawians who interacted with him are the richest in his memory. Both government and UTM should be proud of his selfless leadership and his life.

To the families of our brothers and sisters who lost their lives with the Vice President, we extend our heartfelt condolences to you all and to all who grieve in our nation. PAC cannot find words strong enough to express how shocked we feel as a result of this tragic accident. We know that tears will dry but memories will live forever.

We also extend our prayers to supporters of UTM in particular, trusting that they will continue to be a source of hope and progress in the democratic terrain. May you be uplifted by God’s spirit and contribute positively to the well-being of our nation.

Indeed, the Vice President and our brothers and sisters have gone back to the Lord but the grief we are experiencing is so deep and beyond our imagination. We seek God’s indulgence for resilience, wisdom, and stability as Malawi confronts these trying circumstances. Let the spirit of peace and strength permeate throughout the country.

PAC wishes to call upon all Malawians to maintain peace and tranquillity, and avoid speculations including pointing fingers at each other. Peace and unity remains the treasure Malawi holds in its store.

In this time of sorrow, PAC would like to urge all Malawians to mourn our beloved ones peacefully and in unity.

May Their Souls Rest In Peace .
