Dialogue, peace building, conflict management, central to PAC activities

By PAC Correspondent

At the centre of PAC activities in Malawi is social-cohesion. And this is at different levels.

The social cohesion is tackled through such activities as conflict prevention, management and resolution, peace building – dialogue facilitation, mediation at presidential level and undertaking signing of Peace Declarations by Presidential candidates during the electoral process.

Through the social cohesion program, the Public Affairs Committee is involved in peace and  security activities in the areas of counter-terrorism and extremism, small arms and light weapons.

Over the years, PAC has been involved in the development of ECOSOCC Women Peace and Security Advisory  Opinion and also electoral processes such as election observer missions, civic education and the campaign on 50-50 women participation in decision making positions.

And in an effort to enhance women participation in democratic processes and conflict management, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) introduced Women-In-Faith (WIF) about women from member-religious denominations who are engaged in issues of nation building.

Elsewhere, PAC is also actively involved in Youth Early Warning and Response, an activity aimed at promoting youth participation in conflict prevention and management just like it is doing with community training on Gender Based Violence (GBV).

On the international scene, PAC is also involved in networking and is a member of African Union ECOSOCC, in the Chapter of  Religions for  Peace and PAC is also involved in Commonwealth, SADC , AU  and COMESA International Election Observation Missions.

The Committee also plays a role in development of  ECOSOCC Human Rights and Migration Advisory Opinion under African Union Migration initiatives.
